The soil liquefaction observed across the region during the 1999 earthquake showed that foundation and basement waterproofing in Sakarya is a question of structural safety, not comfort. Our Adapazari based team knows the local ground conditions closely, and we design the perforated pipe and geotextile layers of each foundation drainage system around the soil profile of the site. We offer same day surveys across central Sakarya, Serdivan, Erenler, Arifiye and the surrounding districts.

The three situations we meet most often in Sakarya

Basement flooding in the plain districts. In Adapazarı, Serdivan and Erenler the water table runs close to the surface, so basements and below ground spaces sit under direct hydrostatic pressure. Surface waterproofing alone is not enough in these buildings, the pressure does not drop until drainage is installed around the foundation.

Plots close to stream beds. Because many stream beds cross the city, the water table on some plots rises noticeably with the season. On these plots the discharge level of the drainage line is critical, and where gravity discharge is not possible a pumping chamber is planned.

Retrofitting drainage to existing buildings. A significant part of the building stock on the plain was built without foundation drainage. Where there is room to excavate around the building, external drainage and waterproofing can be added. Where a neighbouring plot prevents excavation, a combination of injection and internal drainage is assessed.

What we look at during the survey

Water table level and its seasonal variation, the height and pattern of damp marks, surface falls around the building, the discharge point of rainwater downpipes, distance to neighbouring structures and access for excavation, and whether there is a chamber or natural outfall the drainage line can connect to.
